Dear Parents and Families,
I hope you are staying warm during this chilly winter season! While things are cooling off outside, our brains are really heating up in school! Besides working hard on writing our informational animal books, working on our comprehension and fluency in reading, studying economics in social studies, light and sound in science, and multiplication and division in math, your kids are also participating in some great causes to learn about helping others...kids can!
Today and tomorrow your child will be watching a movie called "Our Friend, Martin", a cartoon movie that does an excellent job teaching our students the importance of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his contribution to our world. The movie shows the difference between how things were prior to the Civil Rights Movement and how things are today. The movie also teaches the children that there is still a long way to go and that the children themselves can be part of making the difference!
Tomorrow, Friday, January 24th, Red Cedar Elementary will participate in "Hat Day"! This is a fundraiser to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Please send your child to school with a hat to wear during the day and a $1 donation to the American Cancer Society if you child would like to participate! Kids CAN! :)
Lastly, please remember that the due date for the January Book Orders is tomorrow, Friday, January 24th. I will submit the orders at the end of the day!
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Daryl Bean
