We enjoyed seeing most of you at Curriculum Night last night! If you were not able to attend, please let me know and I would be happy to send you the PDF of last night's presentation. Also, be sure to check your e-mail and this newsletter for important sign-up links! In your folder from curriculum night, you should have received options to sign up for:
-Khan Academy (You will be receiving an e-mail about this over the weekend!)
Please let me know if you need assistance signing on to any of those apps!
The following are the 3 important sign-ups we discussed last night:
1) September Birthday Party Sign-Up
Remember, that all birthday sign ups are OPTIONAL! Remember we celebrate birthdays ONCE A MONTH as an entire 3rd grade community!
2) Big Zoo Lesson Volunteer Slots
Please make sure to complete a background check in the office if you plan to volunteer at the zoo. Also, parent volunteers do not need to pay zoo parking or admission! Just tell them you are volunteering with the Big Zoo Lesson! Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation or take CATA as our school bus will be filled!
3) Fall Parent Teacher Conferences
If none of the provided days/times work for you, please feel free to e-mail me and I would be happy to accommodate you! :)
-For Homework Help for math, be sure to check out my website and click the Math Homework Help link on the home page for videos!
-For spelling practice, check out the Spelling City website or app. To find my lists search by School: Glencairn Elementary and then Teacher: Daryl Bean. You will find every list organized by unit!
-For typing practice, check out Dance Mat Typing. The link is located in my Websites for Kids page on my website under the "Just for Fun" category.
-September Book Orders are due Friday, September 30th!
A Note About Homework
Math homework will be sent home Monday-Thursday. The math homework should not take longer than 10-15 minutes. If the homework is causing stress, tears, or frustration, please feel free to write us a note on the homework and we will support your child here at school. Throughout the week as you see fit, please try to encourage your child to read, practice their math facts, and study their spelling words.
Please know that your child's happiness and learning are of utmost important to us. You know your child better than anyone else. If the homework or studying practices are causing unnecessary stress or anxiety, please do not continue them. Let us know how we can support your child. Our job and our passion is supporting and loving your children. We will do whatever it takes to make sure that they are happy and learning!
Please know that I am always free to speak or meet with you at any time! I want to have a positive school-home connection and I look forward to partnering with you this year!
Ms. Bean and Ms. Hedin
