Dear Parents and Families,

We have lots of fun coming up in the next week and a half of school! Please be sure to read the important information below:

Cool Things!

Festival of Cultures was so beautiful and wonderful! I cannot wait to share my pictures and videos with you soon! If you have any to share, I'd love to add them to the photo album on my website!

Also, today the students had an incredible opportunity (thanks to Tara Harrison!) to Skype with a Gorilla Doctor, Dr. Jan, in Rwanda! We spent 30 minutes learning about what it means to be a veterinarian to wild mountain gorillas! For more information you can "Like" Gorilla Doctors on Facebook or visit their website at http://www.gorilladoctors.org

Free Concert Tonight!

Yesterday, the students had the pleasure of going to a concert by Samite, a musician from Uganda, at East Lansing High School. He played some very unique instruments for us and sang and performed wonderfully! He will be putting on a free concert tonight at 7PM in the auditorium of East Lansing High School! All families and community members are welcome!

Summer Birthday Party!

The summer birthday party is Friday, May 30th but the time has been moved to 10:30-11:20 AM! The children will be enjoying treats and having a "read in"...but hopefully outside! We will be celebrating May, June, July, and August birthdays! If you'd like to send in a treat or a snack, please let me know! :)

Jump Rope Club

If your child is in jump rope club, rehearsals will be each morning Wednesday, May 28th, Thursday, May 29th, Friday, May 30th, Monday, June 2nd, and Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:45 AM. Please try to get your child here in the morning for these rehearsals. The show will be Tuesday, June 3rd from 2:20-3:30 in the Red Cedar Elementary gym!

**Also jump rope show DVDs are on sale for $5. If you would like to pre-order a DVD, please send in $5 with your child. All money is due by Wednesday, June 4th! Thank you!**

Aquatic Center

Aquatic Center permission slips and the $5 payment is due Friday, May 30th. We will be attending the Aquatic Center on Wednesday, June 4th. Students will need:
-bathing suit
-towel
-a sack lunch and a drink
-sun screen
-a change of clothes

Field Day

Red Cedar Field Day will take place on Thursday, June 5th from 1:30-3:30 PM. **I am in need of a parent volunteer or two during that time to help my class orient through the field day activities!!** If you are interested in volunteering for field day and helping our class out, PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP! :)

Last Day of School

The last day of school is a half day. School will dismiss at 12:10 PM. Remember the RCSA is hosting an outdoor picnic lunch that will take place immediately following dismissal at 12:15 PM. Please bring a picnic lunch and join us! :)

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,

Ms. Bean :)

Important Information for Upcoming Events

Dear Parents and Families,

The school year is moving along so quickly, but we are still very busy here at school! I hope that all of the mothers enjoyed their mother's day gifts! Happy Mother's Day to the moms out there! You are loved and appreciated!

Thank you again to all who made me feel SO appreciated during teacher appreciation week. The true gift is getting to work your AMAZING children every day! :)

Festival of Cultures

Festival of Cultures will take place on Thursday, May 22nd. The rain date is Thursday, May 29th. The students will be rehearsing for Festival all week this upcoming week. If you are willing to have your students practice at home, Mr. Berry has set up a website for the music program: www.redcedarmusic.net where you can get the important information and practice materials for Festival!
Please remember that for the evening of Festival of Cultures your child should dress in nice, traditional clothing from their culture. For those of us in the United States, it would be what you might wear to a nice restaurant or party.

Jump Rope Show

If your child participates in the Red Cedar Jump Rope Team, our show will take place on Tuesday, June 3rd. They should have brought home a DVD order form today for the show. DVDs will cost $5 and I will need the order form and the cash no later than Wednesday June 4th. DVDs will be delivered on the last day of school. Your child should have also brought home a note about morning jump rope practices. These practices are not mandatory but strongly suggested if able. This extra time allows us to fine tune the show and run through parts of the show for longer than the 20 minute recess period that we typically get. Please do not drop your child off prior to 7:45 AM on May 28th, 29th, 30th, June 2nd, and June 3rd as there will not be an adult here to watch them prior to that time. Thank you!

Science

Please click HERE for Ms. Lynch's update about science in 3rd grade.

Bake Sale!

On Wednesday, May 28th during lunch time Mr. Finger's 2nd grade class will be doing a bake sale and loom bracelet sale for 50 cents for each item. All proceeds will go to the United Way. If you would like to donate individual baked goods to support Mr. Finger's class, please send them in on the day of the sale. Also, if your child is able to purchase a treat or bracelet during lunch, please send them with the money that day. Thank you!

Last Book Orders!

The last book orders have gone home and the orders will be due Monday, May 19th. PLEASE PLACE ALL ONLINE ORDERS BY THIS DATE! Also please send in the order forms and checks on Monday at the latest if you plan to order during this last round of book orders. Thank you SO SO SO much to all who have ordered. You have helped my class to earn over 50 new books for our classroom this year alone! We are so grateful to you! :)

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Bean :)

A Friendly Reminder

Parents, please take some time this week to remind your students that although the temperatures are getting warmer and the days left until summer are getting shorter and shorter, it is still important to make each day of learning count at Red Cedar School. The behavior expectations and learning expectations stay the same. Ms. Lynch and I have been finding that some students are forgetting to follow directions and use self control and that some students are not as focused as earlier in the year. Please support us by reminding your child to stay focused and that each day of learning brings new adventures that are important in their preparation for 4th grade next year! Thank you for your support and understanding with this! :)

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Ms. Bean :)
