Dear Parents and Families,

I enjoyed meeting with all of you for parent teacher conferences. I look forward to continuing to work together to support your child and help them grow both at home and at school! Here are a few important upcoming events that you should be aware of:

March is Reading Month

March is Reading Month! This is a gentle reminder that part of your child's homework each week is to read 20 minutes every day and record that reading on their reading log. A new reading log goes home every Monday and that is when they can returned their filled in log.

Tomorrow, Thursday, March 20th we will have 11 year old author Olivia Wittman in as a special guest. She will be selling her book for $15. If you would like to purchase her book and have it signed by the author, please send in $15 in cash or as a check written out to "Liv Via" tomorrow. An additional order form will be going home tomorrow for anyone who may want to purchase the book after they meet Olivia. She will also be making an appearance at Book Bingo where her books will be for sale as well.

Today your child will be taking home a beautiful hard cover, signed copy of the book Peace by Wendy Anderson Halperin. This is the author that will be visiting Red Cedar School this Friday, March 21st from 5:30-7:00 PM. This is a free event for Red Cedar families, so please feel free to join us! Pizza will be for sale by the RCSA!

On Friday, March 28th, Book Bingo will be hosted by the 4th graders and held in the Red Cedar gym from 5:30-7:30 PM. Pizza, drinks, and desserts will be for sale. Otherwise, the event is free for families. Please feel free to join us for a fun evening event at Red Cedar School!

Upcoming Field State Testing

Beginning on Tuesday, March 25th, your child will be participating in a field test of the testing that the state is considering substituting in place of MEAP in the future. The testing will take place in the mornings only and will be computer based. Please make sure that between March 25th and April 4th your child eats a healthy breakfast in the mornings and gets a good night's sleep each night. Thank you for your support and understanding!

If you have any questions please let me know!

Sincerely,

Daryl Bean :)

Dear Parents and Families,

I have enjoyed meeting with many of you already for parent teacher conferences! It is so nice to share your child's successes and growth with you!

This week we have half days on Tuesday and Thursday and no school on Friday for conferences. Please make sure that your child knows what to do and where to go on the half days.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 12th, we will be having a guest author visit our classroom for March is Reading Month. The author is 11 year old Olivia Wittman! Copies of her book will be on sale for $15 and Olivia will be signing the copies purchased. If you child is interested in purchasing a book, please send $15 in cash or write a check for $15 to "Liv Via" for tomorrow.

The children will have library on Thursday, so please make sure to send their library books back to school so that they can select new books for the long weekend. There will be no homework this week besides the reading as we have shortened days and exciting events on Wednesday.

Next week your child will be participating in a district initiative to give students experience taking the Smarter Balance Assessments, which are one of the assessments that the state is currently deciding on that may replace the MEAP test. These assessments are computer based. Your child will be one of the first in the state to participate in this unique opportunity. Their scores will not count, but will give the state and district information about the tests themselves. Please make sure your child is well rested next week and has access to a hearty breakfast.

Thank you so much and enjoy your long weekend! :)

Sincerely,

Ms. Bean
